Enrollment Resources

Open Enrollment

Open Enrollment is for Torrance residents who wish to transfer their student(s) to a different Torrance school.
Parents/Guardians who live within the Torrance Unified School District boundaries may apply to have their children attend a school other than their home school.   Once a year, during a specific period of time, applications are accepted for the following school year. Once the procedure is complete, the Open Enrollment school becomes the permanent home school for that student.

For the 2018-2019 school year, the Open Enrollment application must be submitted to the Family Welcome and Enrollment Center by February 28th, 2018 at 4:00 pm to the correct office. Late applications will not be accepted.

Please visit the Open Enrollment page on the district's website for additional information.

Inter-district Permits

Inter-district permits allow students from districts outside of Torrance to apply to attend Torrance schools. Additionally, any student who resides within TUSD's boundaries who wants to transfer to a different district must receive an out-going transfer permit from TUSD before applying to the new district.  Please visit the Permit page on the district's website for application deadlines and additional information.

Enrollment Information

Family Welcome Enrollment Center

In California, student eligibility requirements are determined by the California Department of Education, which regulates all public schools. Before enrolling, please review the eligibility requirements carefully to determine if your student(s) is eligible to participate in grades TK/K - 12.

Torrance USD's schools are open to all students who meet the state's age requirements and live within TUSD's geographic boundaries. Use the Home School Locator tool to identify your home school.

While TUSD is required to collect documents that show age and residency requirements have been met, we do welcome students who have unusual circumstances, such as homeless and foster youth, immigrants, refugees, migrants, and students who are not U.S. citizens. Please contact the Family Welcome Enrollment Center directly for assistance if enrolling a student for whom standard documentation is not readily available due to this type of situation as certification is needed.
